Following the termination of military drills, Moscow stated the drawdown of forces near Ukraine will continue for a second day, but Western nations remain doubtful.
Russia announced on Wednesday that military drills in the annexed Crimean peninsula had concluded and that troops were being withdrawn.
The news comes a day after Moscow announced that an undefined number of soldiers stationed near the Ukrainian border had been returned to their posts.
“Units of the Southern Military District are moving to their permanent deployment positions after completing tactical exercises,” Moscow’s Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
Military units, including tanks and artillery, were also seen crossing a bridge from Crimea — the Ukrainian peninsula held by Russia since 2014 — to the Russian mainland in scenes broadcast on official media.
