Do you really need a Covid jab this year?

Many may wonder whether it is healthy to get the Coronavirus vaccinations.
Myself, I have actually been an elite athlete for years, as a dancer and choreographer. Because of this, I was very surprised to get three heart infections in a short time this summer, with inflammation in the heart and in the renal pelvis. This also rang a bell with me from the many articles I have read, pro- and contra- the Corona virus.

I was in the hospital for a totally different treatment, when the fifth injection was given to my age group. When I enquired whether I would finally take the fifth injection now, it was recommended to take not only this syringe but also the flu vaccine, even though I never had the latter put in before, because I was taking preventive homeopathic treatment and still intend to do so.

My family doctor also assured me that some problems had cropped up in women, but that one can rest assured that all the medications against Corona that entered the market after the initial trials have proven their safety.

According to the British Medical Journal, the BA.2.86 and XBB.1.5 variants are the most closely tracked variants currently circulating in the UK. BA.2.86 or the Pirola variant, is the newest with initial surges detected in September. While it contains certain mutations in the virus’ spike protein, there is no evidence yet that Pirola can circumvent vaccine protection and increase the severity of Covid-19.

Denis Nash, is an epidemiologist at the City University of New York. “Covid-19 can still severely affect people whose vaccine immunity has waned,” he says.

“Many of the deaths are preventable and avoidable, it’s just that people, and particularly the elderly and vulnerable, are not up to date on their vaccines. This makes Covid a threat again.”

Researchers declare this an ‘extraordinary’ time for discoveries in medicine

This is an exceptional era in medicine, with researchers saying to expect even more groundbreaking treatments in the near future. Discoveries are being made at a quicker pace, Nobel Prize winner Jennifer Doudna, a biochemist at the University of California, Berkeley, told The New York Times.

Doudna, who helped discover CRISPR gene editing, has been running her research lab for nearly three decades,

“and I can say that throughout that period of time, I’ve just never experienced what we’re seeing over just the last five years,”

she said.

“I think we’re at an extraordinary time of accelerating discoveries.”

The Covid-19 vaccine is one recent breakthrough, and in the near future, mRNA could be applied to other applications, like treating cancer, RSV, Zika, and HIV.

“It’s stunning,”

immunologist Barney Graham, who helped develop mRNA vaccines, told the Times.

“You cannot imagine what we’re going to see over the next 30 years. The pace of advancement is in an exponential phase right now.” [The New York Times]

Time Hobbles On

Getting at a certain age one has had enough time to become purely energetically efficient.

Over the years, some have learned to hold their tongues a bit more while others, on the contrary, are now not shy about saying what is on their tongues.

With age has come the understanding that it is better to say how things are and that there is no longer any reason to hide things or withhold truth.

Growing “Older”
How many do you identify with??

As I’ve grown older, I’ve learned that pleasing everyone is impossible, but annoying everyone is a piece of cake.

I’m not saying I’m old and worn out, but I make sure I’m nowhere near the curb on trash day.

As I watch this generation try and rewrite our history, I’m sure of one thing: It will be misspelled and have no punctuation.

Me (sobbing): “I can’t see you anymore — I’m not going to let you hurt me again.”
My physical exercise instructor (exasperated): “But you did only one sit-up.”

I haven’t gotten anything done today. I’ve been in the produce department trying to open this stupid plastic bag.

Turns out that being senior is mostly just Googling how to do stuff.

I’m on two diets. I wasn’t getting enough food on one.

If you find yourself feeling useless, remember it took…

Freedom for whom?

East of Eden

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to drag on, one thing is emminently clear to politicians, scientisits, business leaders and the public at large: mass vaccination is the only way out of the pandemic, and thus the only way out of the cycle of restrictions that have been imposed on our lives. Most people can see this, and thus most people in Britain have already gotten vaccinated at this point. But of course, not every country is as fortunate to have vaccination rates as high as ours.

In Austria, which has among the lowest vaccination rates in Europe at 42%, has recently become the first country in Europe to make it mandatory for all eligible citizens to recieve the Covid vaccine. In the US, only about 59% of the population has been vaccinated, which sounds fine until you remember that a large and vocal part of the population resists the idea…

Social Media@ NYUPraha

The COVID-19 pandemic. It has been almost two years since the death toll has started to surge millions of people around the world. With the uncertainty around the emergence of a new virus, the demand for information naturally increased. There was not only a rapid exchange of information that allowed citizens to make informed decisions, but also a widespread of disinformation and misinformation – about the virus, its origins, effective prevention and treatment measures, and the legitimacy of the vaccines – both intended and unintended to harm. In this shift from the public to the digital sphere were social media and its paramount role in creating an “infodemic.”

During the pandemic (and the infodemic), there has been government control over surveillance, censorship, and the free flow of information. In addition to this, the value of social media has been highlighted by political leaders, who have strategically…
