The waiting game – Wachten

Men zegt wel eens dat alles in het hood zit. En daar heeft men wel gelijk in. Ieder van ons kan zelf bepalen welke richting hij of zij uit gaat en zich laat gevoelen, om al of niet lekker in het vel te voelen.
Als iedereen de moeite neemt om zichzelf vrij te laten ontwikkelen tot een eigen persoonlijkheid waarbij de andere rondom hem of haar ten volle wordt gewaardeerd, gerespecteerd en vrij wordt gelaten, kan eenieder in de omgeving zich vrij ontplooien en tot een goede samenwerking komen welke de gehele maatschappij ten goede kan komen.

In our head we all do have the choice to decide what we want to believe, what we want to follow up and which ways we want to go and what we would not mind letting influence us.
What can work for all of us is that each person accept his or her individuality and gives full respect and freedom to the individuality of the other.

Met de titel Equivalent verwijst maker Marc Bijl naar de serie liggende bakstenen werken van Carl Andre. Waar Andre de toeschouwer toestond over de stenen te lopen en zo het kunstwerk openstelde voor het publiek, ontneemt Bijls Equivalent (2000) je de toegang tot de tentoonstelling. De titel echoot ook de gelijkwaardigheid die iedereen in Nederland volgens Artikel 1 van de grondwet geniet. Zo vormt de muur een krachtige openingsmetafoor voor een land in verandering. Je kunt er nog wel langs om je doel te bereiken, natuurlijk, maar van een feestelijk welkom is bepaald geen sprake.
