Try to get it!: Choices😍

Ěl Shaddai, the High or Exalted One, has given every human being a brain, with the capability to think, question, make choices and decide.

Al-Azeez – Al-Azeem (The Mighty – The Great One – The Strong One) wants us also to become strong and to be masters over ourselves. He is no dictator that wants everything done His way in His time. He allows us to make up our own minds in our own time. But created in His image, He would love to see us become like His image, free of wrong thoughts with a pure conscience.
Al Khaleeq (The Divine Creator) is the Al-Mubdi’ (The Originator – Starter of everything – Creator of mankind) Who is the beginning but also the end. As such, we should try to reach the end He has provided for mankind. Our eyes and ears should be directed in His direction, going for and with Him.

He does not commit anyone to anything but does suggest the best for all of us. As it is up to us to follow His Will or not, out of the free will, it is to say out of making our own choice for Him.

Try to get it!

Life is But a matter of choices
By a free will we choose our way
By a free will we open our ears
We choose the voice we want to hear
With no compulsion
Or an interfere
Sohair
Allah says
If any one does a righteous deed, it ensures to the benefit of his own soul; if he does evil, it works against (his own soul). In the end will ye (all) be brought back to your Lord.

How to Start (and Keep) Good Habits

The Divine Creator has given His divine Word to mankind. He demanded some ‘holy men’ to write down those words so that nobody would have an excuse and would say

I did not know.

He also took care that in a certain way everybody would have the opportunity in life to come in contact with either people or with the words declaring Him. All people are created in the image of God and in a certain way have the connection with the Creator inplanted in the self. God wants all creatures to come close to Him. He also would like that they all would become partakers of a marvellous peaceful world. But all people should take the steps toward God of their free will.

To get to know Him and what He wants, God gave us the Book of books to help and guide us.

When we want to go on a big trip, we also prepare ourselves. We take care that we have the right roadmaps and have everything with us that we need for the trip. Going for a better life, we need to undertake some serious matters. It is fine when we have bought some roadmaps to start our trip, but when we do not use those maps, we are nothing with them. It is the same with the bible; When we have a Bible or Holy Scriptures but do not read it, we are nothing with it.

When having such a Sacred Writings and Bestseller, we best make very good use of them. For reading the Bible we also better prepare ourselves and make some arrangements to read it regularly. We should make it a good habit to regularly go through that Word of God and think about it.

How to Start (and Keep) Good Habits

Imagine it’s late and you’ve had a long day. You were planning to exercise, fix yourself a healthy meal, then spend some time in God’s Word. Instead, you grab some pizza and binge TV shows.

Without realising it, you just reinforced a habit.

Research suggests we all have “keystone habits,” acquired patterns of behaviour that form the basis of our daily routines. Change those, and you can change your life.

Here are 5 Ways to Develop Healthy Habits:

  1. Remember whose you are. You are called by God and made in His image. Because of His great love for you, you have the ability to become more like the person God created you to be.
  2. Identify the “why” behind your behaviour. Do you eat junk food because you like the taste? Or because you’re tired or bored?
Once you know why you behave the way you do, it’s easier to replace unhealthy habits with better ones.
  3. Draw close to God. When you prioritize time with God, you’re allowing Him to renew your mind (Rom. 12:2). Eventually, this will help you change the way you live.
  4. Focus on one key habit. Consistently doing one thing well will yield results over time and make it easier to master other habits later.
  5. Give yourself grace. You won’t always get it right… And that’s okay. When you stumble, “fall forward”: learn from your mistakes and keep going. God will still be right beside you, cheering you on.

It only takes a moment to start a healthy habit. Plan everything to come to a regular Bible reading, and let God use that choice to begin transforming your daily routines.

Be convinced that the Bible in itself contains enough to fully inform and educate us to go to God and to find the right path of life to enter the kingdom of God. We must fully trust in it.

What is Existential Ergonomics?

Existence is primarily the problem of either being, having a mode of being, or not able to be. When looking at it, it is also particular and individual— always my existence, your existence, his existence, her existence, but also bounded in time, because one moment a person can be and another moment in time he or she can not be any more.

In these days of lockdown because of CoViD-19 we notice too many people who worry too much about their existence and about the future, as if the present quarantine measures would be able to “kill” them, instead of making use of the now given free time to make something special for themselves.

To remember

“Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does. It is up to you to give [life] a meaning.”

–Jean-Paul Sartre

  • “existential” = loaded + defined = “relating to human existence” or, more broadly, “the analysis of existence + ways humans find themselves existing in the world.”
  • “ergonomics”  = not well understood => application of psychological + physiological principles to engineering + design of products, processes, + systems.
  • philosophy of existentialism = concerned with finding one’s self + meaning of life through free will, choice, + personal responsibility.
  • ultimate goal of ergonomics = reduce human error, increase productivity, enhance safety, + boost comfort (specific focus on interaction between human + product or system).

existential ergonomics

“Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does. It is up to you to give [life] a meaning.”

–Jean-Paul Sartre

What if we could wrestle down life’s big questions using the scientific method? What if we could systematically improve human thoughts, actions, and environments in a way that shapes personal meaning and significance? Existential ergonomics is my attempt to explore just that.

The word “existential” is loaded, and “ergonomics” is not well understood, so I’ll offer some perspective.

Existential is defined as “relating to human existence” or, more broadly, “the analysis of existence and the ways humans find themselves existing in the world.” The philosophy of existentialism is concerned with finding one’s self and the meaning of life through free will, choice, and personal responsibility.

Ergonomics, on the other hand, is the application of psychological and physiological principles to…

Let you not be defined by the effect of your wrong choice

Leah Houseman, writing as Sophia Bar-Lev writes:

as we continue to make our way through the Hebrew month of Elul which is dedicated to repentance in order to prepare our hearts for the approaching Festivals of the Lord (Lev. 23), this is the time to take an honest look at our personal acceptance of responsibility.

A big difficulty for a lot of persons is that they never want to take up the blame for something that went wrong. Most people prefer to give others the fault. When they themselves did something wrong they are fast to find somebody else to blame, even when they can put it on an imaginary figure like a devil.

These days of reconciliation and looking at the transition of the old into the new year it is time to look into our own heart. When we are prone to blaming others for our problems, we should reconsider and wonder if it is not high time to change our attitude.

Our world is still at war. Also in the Torah readings for this week the Jews find wars, at the beginning and the end. In the Weekly Torah Commentary — Ki Tetzei September 5, 2014 the author wants us to look at the cause-and-effect relationship, something which is too often overlooked.

From the writings we can get that the clear absence of unity between parents breeds rebellious children. today we do find lots of families with problems between partners and children. Many adults forget how their actions, their way of treating others, affects their children.

how parents live affects their children far more than what they say.

How many times we do see today that partners are not honest to each other and betray the people around them? In how many cases negativity becomes a bigger facto in the family life than positivity. Parents saying to their children they are not doing well enough. Family-members shouting at each other. Are the parents willing to remember the stupid things they did themselves when they were children? Are they willing to accept that their children learn by their mistakes?

English: We are not born parents we have to le...

We are not born parents we have to learn how to be parents (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

In a household each member should help each other to make it work. Together they should aim to go united on the path to greatness by choosing to learn the lessons of every experience we have in life.

The lesson for all of us is unavoidable: Human beingschildren and adults -are too easily tempted to blame others for their own shortcomings. The Torah sets a higher standard, one consistent with how we were created.

Every human being has Free Will; regardless of what has happened to you, what parents you had, what hurts you’ve experienced, what hardships you’ve endured, You – and only You – have the responsibility for your decisions. It is ‘we’ not ‘them’ who have the ability and the power to choose whether we will wallow in negativity and in the past; or will we have the wisdom to learn from every life experience, using each one as a stepping stone to greatness. Cycles of abuse and pain can and must be broken. Amon and Moav, as well as Lot, has so many opportunities to learn from their experiences and become great men. It was for choosing to focus on their own feelings of disenfranchisement, their experiences of cruelty and selfishness, their own anger and sense of fatalistic doom, that they were forever barred from the congregation of Israel.

  • Judaism Does Not Allow Us to Hate (algemeiner.com)
Ki Tetzei contains more laws than any other parsha in the Torah, and it is possible to be overwhelmed by this embarrass de richesse of detail. One verse, however, stands out by its sheer counter-intuitiveness:

Do not despise an Edomite, because he is your brother.

Do not despise the Egyptian, because you were a stranger in his land. (Deut. 23: 8 )

These are very unexpected commands. Understanding them will teach us an important lesson about leadership.

If we think less of a person because of the colour of his or her skin, we are repeating the sin of Aaron and Miriam – “Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married, for he had married a Cushite woman” (Num. 12: 1).
    +
Generous Tit-for-Tat says, don’t always do to him what he does to you or you may find yourself locked into a mutually destructive cycle of retaliation. Every so often ignore (i.e. forgive) your opponent’s last harmful move. That, roughly speaking, is what the sages meant when they said that God originally created the world under the attribute of strict justice but saw that it could not survive. Therefore He built into it the principle of compassion.
    +
Do not forget the past but do not be held captive by it. Be willing to fight your enemies but never allow yourself to be defined by them or become like them. Learn to love and forgive. Acknowledge the evil men do, but stay focused on the good that is in our power to do. Only thus do we raise the moral sights of humankind and help redeem the world we share.

  • Ki Tetzei (thejc.com)
The term mamzer has no precise English equivalent. Hertz in his translation of the Chumash renders it “bastard”, but clarifies in his commentary that this “does not mean a child born out of wedlock, but the child of an adulterous or an incestuous marriage”.The moral difficulty raised by this law is obvious. Why is the child punished with severely restricted marriage opportunities because of the sins of the parents? Doesn’t this sidrah itself say further on that “Parents shall not be put to death for children, neither shall children be put to death for parents; everyone shall be put to death for his own sin”(24:16)?
  • Ki Tetzei (anitasilvert.wordpress.com)
I guess before we can fully forgive or be forgiven, we need to engage with the memory of what’s happened, and sometimes it takes time for that to dissipate.  Maybe that’s also why we start thinking about forgiveness a full month before Rosh Hashanah; to give ourselves and even God time to work on the process, and it’s not clear if the process begins with Forgiveness, Remembering or Forgetting.   This year, I’m still in the remembering stage.
  • Ki Tetzei (thejc.com)
One example of how the laws of war differ from peace time concerns the protection of enemy civilians. Are they protected by the familiar category of pikuach nefesh — the injunction to save life at nearly all costs. Following the approach of the verse above that at wartime many rules are suspended, Rav Yosef Babad of Tarnopol (1800-74) argues in his iconic work, Minchat Chinuch, that there can be no sense in applying pikuach nefesh during a war. On the contrary wars are won by minimising the value of life.
  • Ki-Seitzei: DIY Judaism (5tjt.com)
We must take precautions. Although we believe in miracles, we are not permitted to rely upon them. There is a Yiddish proverb that “the man destined to drown will drown even in a glass of water.” But that doesn’t mean that you have to be the one to put his head under the hose. In short, we believe in the concept of bashert but we mustn’t live by it. Otherwise, why go to work? We say in the bentching (Grace after Meals) that G‑d is the feeder and provider for all. So if G‑d will support us, why must I schlep off to work?
Clearly, this is not the Jewish attitude. That’s why it is a commandment of the Torah to safeguard our health. Likewise, we are not to live dangerously by leaving roofs unenclosed or swimming pools unfenced or our doors unlocked. As they say, “Trust in G‑d, but lock your car.”
  • Ki Tetzei: Doing Jewish (anitasilvert.wordpress.com)
We’re heading into a New Year.  How will you connect your inside spirituality to your outside…connect your Jewish feelings to your Jewish actions?  It isn’t necessarily about praying or changing your kitchen (although…maybe that’s what your spirituality learning leads you).  But maybe you eat a little differently, and know why.  Maybe you take moments to see the good things in your life, and acknowledge them);  maybe you find out about a Jewish way of acknowledging those good things (that’s called blessings).  Jewish life is a verb.  How will you Jew?

The Existence of Evil

Evil is often there where we do not see it. Often it is hidden until it blinds us in the darkness. All of us have the free choice to let good or evil being the stronger over the other. It is a choice we all have to make our selves. We can not blame an other, for the evil which is in us.

Ultimately, everyone who seeks happiness or pleasure in any form is seeking God. Unless they do so with conscious awareness that only God-communion can bestow true soul joy, they are destined to discover that the object of their seeking is an inferior substitute that inevitably leads to disappointment, anguish or sorrow. It cannot be otherwise.
  • Seeing evil, hearing evil, feeling evil (wordsonsergebenhayon.wordpress.com)
Evil was also something I was taught at a young age was synonymous with the Devil and with hell’s raging inferno beneath the ground – where anyone doing wrong would live out their afterlife. There was certainly a feeling of everlasting condemnation and punishment for being ‘evil’, and that this sentencing would be at God’s hand. I was told that God would stop loving us if we were imperfect and did wrong. It never made sense to me how God, who ‘loves us unconditionally’, and is ‘all-knowing’ and ‘all-loving’, would ever be able to punish, judge or condemn.

Humans were designed to function best in the day, not the night. God didn’t equip us with night vision, instead He gave us eyes that have a difficult time detecting movement in shadows. We feel more vulnerable in the dark because we are.

In the Bible we find a figurative association being made between darkness and evil.

“This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.” (John 3:19)

One thing I love about fantasy is the ability to show the battle between Good and Evil in a more vivid and clear way.  In fantasy there are shinning heroes vs. great monsters, hobbits vs. dark lords, light vs. darkness, etc.  Fantasy allows you to show Good and Evil in a form everyone can easily recognize.  As a Christian, I want to tell stories that show the stark contrast between light and dark, freedom and slavery, death and salvation, fantasy allows me to do this as no other genre does.
  • Can Joy be found in Suffering? (audacityandsupposition.com)
When Eve partook of the Tree of Good & Evil she called the experience “good,” “pleasant,” and “to be desired.” Since you are to get off this tree, you must reverse her assessment. You must call the earthly realm, “vain, unpleasant, and undesirable.” These are the opposites of Eve’s responses. By this formula you can reverse her actions and be separated from your carnality.

This is “metanoia,” a change of mind, and this change is initiated by suffering. Without suffering this change would be impossible. Only suffering can desecrate the earthly realm, and only then will you be empowered to call it vain and unprofitable. The suffering that comes to your life will be prescribed by divine wisdom to kill your carnal mind. This suffering will end your affection for the earthly realm. Those things that you loved and enjoyed will become wearisome and unsatisfying. By this process your carnality will die and the Mind of Christ will be birthed in you.

  • The Eternal Influences of Spiritual Cleansing (morselsofbread.net)
During times of spiritual cleansing we may need to do a little more than just dust behind our book shelves. We may also need to dust off some of the books on those shelves, in particular our scriptures, and allow the glorious Light of the teachings found there to illumine our lives as its rays shine through the windows of our life.

It is impossible to clean anything in the dark. We need to have some light to see what we are cleaning. Therefore, we need to let the Son shine in by making the Savior an absolute part of our daily lives. Without Him we could do nothing. Without Him we would surely fail. Without Him we would be like a ship drifting without a sail. He wants to be involved in the big, as well as, the small moments of our lives. If we allow Him to rule and reign in all areas of our lives – in every room of our spiritual houses – we will not have a need for a continual spiritual cleansing, but instead we would experience a daily, moment-to-moment refreshing of our spirits. “God is faithful, by whom [we] were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:9).

To be jealous of what you see to be good, and to be envious of those who are better than yourself, seems, beloved brethren, in the eyes of some people to be a slight and petty wrong; and, being thought trifling and of small account, it is not feared; not being feared, it is contemned; being contemned, it is not easily shunned: and it thus becomes a dark and hidden mischief, which, as it is not perceived so as to be guarded against by the prudent, secretly distresses incautious minds.
  • Can you say yes Lord regardless of cost? (audacityandsupposition.com)
