Another Beginning

Having to go back to school gives us an occasion to meet more people than we would do when in our family, staying in our own habitat, enjoying our little cocoon.

Going back to school or to work shall bring us again on the streets, taking public transport, facing many different faces each day, meeting again old but also new faces.

In the school-year we shall have many occasions to meet people to hear to them but also to talk to them.
We also should take many opportunities to talk about that what is deep in our heart and gives us a fury love.

Being in the world does not mean we do have to be off the world and have to take part in all those things which we should consider not applicable. So, again we shall have to make choices and show to others which High-Way we want to go.
This shall create again some new important moments for us to witness.
Let us not forget to proclaim that Good News which gives us hope and gives us every time over and over again some new energy.

  • reflect upon the summer and think about the hopes
  • encouragement can go a long way
  • a small hug or word can change an entire day around
  • make an effort to read Scripture every single day
  • do not walk in step with the wicked
  • do not stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers
  • set goals for yourself
  • Be an encourager

For mams and dads it is also back to ‘normal’

The Door is Open

Endings are a great way to begin. Today marks my last day of summer. I am sad to see it go, but I am happy to embrace the new school year ahead. Tomorrow morning I will be loading up the car, packing it extremely tight just to fit everything I “need” and I will make the journey back to campus.

As the handful of hours I do have left pass by, I cannot help but reflect upon the summer and think about the hopes I have for my sophomore year. I had a wonderful summer filled with work, trips, family and friends. I explored the west coast of Michigan, flew on 5 different planes, found out that LAX does not have a lot of food choices and a saw a black bear in the Smoky Mountains. This summer was special to me and it gave me a lot of memories…

When the Summertime has its last rays of sun taken out of the cupboard, fall presents itself sooner than expect. In Belgium the metrological autumn started the day before yesterday and the rain was this time present to proof it.

The last few weeks for many mothers and fathers may have been very hectic. After the first school day, September 1, they now may find some time for themselves, thinking this also could be a good moment to have a fresh start themselves.

Perhaps now it is time to start what one ever so wished to do right. And a school-year shall also present extra activities for the parents, bringing their kids from one place to an other. So better to keep a list or to put some mark on the calendar.

Something to think about:

  1. Using an agenda and not for getting to write down the important thinks.
  2. Not bad to write down your weekly/monthy goals
  3. Try to organise the house and to keep it tidy
  4. On the pc the e-mails may have piled up, so why not now to take some time to clean out your email inbox.
  5. Clear off your desk and vanity area.
  6. Without sufficient funds not much is possible. Check your bank account and make a budget.
  7. Find yourself also new interesting things to do
  8. Make a list of interesting books to read, music to hear, films to see.
  9. Why not going to study something new yourself? Go to learn new things.
  10. Go and follow some lectures.
  11. Visit exhibitions.
  12. After enjoying the sun, perhaps doing not much, except eating well, it is time to take care of your outlook
  13. Go to the fitness or gym.
  14. Last but not least: open your eyes for the many challenges
  15. And at the end of the day or at the end of the week, why not: Treat Yourself for having it together.

After some good time off, without any schoolbooks kids may find their way back to school. a meeting with the new teachers before the school-year really start may be useful.

Too often the supermarkets are already trying to sell school-products from the moment school ended in June and by August the 1st their advertisements are shouting everywhere. Let you not be tempted by them and wait until you know from school what is really necessary. Learn your child to be happy with the free school material, like pencils, notebooks a.o.

When taking care that the child has the required night rest and gets stimulated to go for it, finding new friends, new material to learn, let it explore everything at its ease, giving it time to adapt to new situations.

To remember:

Breaking the ice early = best ways to calm everyone’s fears => get to know the school and schoolteachers ==> take advantage of the school’s open house or back-to-school night

Familiarize your child with her environment

try getting in contact with pupils from last year, refreshing relationships before school starts

obtain the class supply list and take a special shopping trip with your child => right tools =  feel prepared

get your child excited about upcoming projects

avoid last-minute drilling

ease into the routine = avoid first-day-of-school mayhem

Back-to-School Tips for Parents

Starting the new school year can be a time of great excitement… and anxiety. Help calm your child’s fears (and your own) with these teacher-approved tips.

Meet the new teacher.
For kids, one of the biggest back-to-school fears is “Will I like my new teacher?” Breaking the ice early on is one of the best ways to calm everyone’s fears. Take advantage of your school’s open house or back-to-school night. Some teachers welcome phone calls or e-mails — another great opportunity to get to know each other before the year begins.

If personal contact with the teacher isn’t possible, try locating the teacher’s picture on a school website or in a yearbook, so your child can put a name with a face. If your child’s teacher sends a welcome letter, be sure to read the letter together.

Tour the school.
If your school hosts an open…
