Daddy Matt

Leaving Oz

Daddy Matt

Going there for the last time,
To Chapel Hill,
It is smaller now than then,
And though I didn’t go in
I saw it as it was
Large and lively
My grandfather,
Daddy Matt,
At the kitchen table
Playing cards, telling stories
Children laughing
And the smell of Granny cooking
Southern Fried Chicken and rice
So nice,
So long, long ago
